Lilia Cabellero

May 26, 2021

Lilia CabelleroRECIPIENT OF THE 2021 JOLIE JOHNSON LEADERSHIP AWARD

Lilia has served as a Board of Director for the Medford School Board for four years, works tirelessly with the Medford Police Department to help provide positive interactions for the community, is the longest serving Chair of the Latino Interagency Committee, and is a passionate advocate for Jackson County CASA, serving as a bilingual/bicultural volunteer and mentor. She is looked to as a leader, not only as a voice for the Latino population, but as a critical partner in community health.

Lilia serves as the Cultural Liaison Coordinator for the Medford Police Department, a position that was created to establish an effective working relationship between the Medford Police Department and the minority community it serves and protects.

The Liaison Coordinator assists hundreds of non-English speaking community members by coordinating bilingual presentations on Medford Police Department policies and procedures, State and local ordinances, and crime prevention. She participates on numerous minority committees and in community events as a means to identity and address concerns expressed by community members. She also assists this department and other law enforcement agencies in criminal investigations involving Spanish speaking individuals.

Through her position, she is able to assist members of the Latinx community through advocacy, support, and connection to resources.

She has earned a reputation for her willingness to be an active member of boards, committees, and projects, ranging from the Latinx Interagency Committee, Multicultural Commission, the Greater Medford Multicultural Fair, Medford School District, Jackson Co. Library District Strategic Planning Committee, and Project Community Connect. Community members know that she will be engaged and and work very well as a team player.

Lilia is THE “go-to” person for so many people in the Rogue Valley.  She is looked to as a leader, not only as a voice for the Latino population, but as a critical partner in community health.
